Polyurethane Paint Features
Polyurethane paint can also be oven-dried, has high resistance to sunlight, mechanical and chemical resistance, and can be applied wet on wet. It is elastic and preferred especially in the manufacturing of vehicle equipment due to its impact resistance.
What is paint definition
Polyurethane paint is a two-component alkyd isocyanate-based semi-matte finish topcoat paint with quick-drying properties.
Areas of UsePolyurethane Top Coat has been developed to respond to consumers in the steel manufacturing and commercial vehicle sector who use synthetic-based paints and want to upgrade their quality. It can also be comfortably used as a topcoat for all industrial sectors requiring the above properties, on metal and concrete surfaces.
Surface Cleaning:
All types of moisture, chloride, sulfate salts, rust, and scale must be removed from metal surfaces either by grit blasting to Sa 2 ½ degree according to Swedish Standard SIS 05 5900, or by mechanical methods to St 2 standard. Additionally, dust, dirt, oil, and grease on metal surfaces should be cleaned with cleaning agents and/or high-pressure water jets. Weld spatter and sharp edges on surfaces should be ground. After different cleaning processes, the surface should be cleaned with an electric vacuum cleaner, clean and dry air, or a clean brush. There should be a slight metallic sheen on the surface after these processes, and the first coat should ideally be applied immediately, or at most within 30 minutes.
How to apply polyurethane paint
After opening the package of Polyurethane Top Coat (1531-1201), it should be thoroughly mixed with a drill mixer and homogenized, then mixed with Polyurethane Hardener (1531-1501) at the specified ratio. Polyurethane Thinner (1551-1401) should be added at the recommended rate to achieve the application viscosity. (For spray applications, the application viscosity should be adjusted to 17” - 19” / DC4 / 20°C) It is recommended to apply the Polyurethane Top Coat over recommended primers to provide a dry film thickness of at least 50 - 60 µ for expected performance. If wet on wet application is not to be performed, wait for 60 minutes for the acceptance of the second coat.
During Application:
Ambient temperature should be between 5°C and 50°C,
The temperature of the surface to be applied should be between 10°C and 30°C,
Relative Humidity should be < 85%.
Important Reminders:
To prevent any health problems or fire hazards, adequate ventilation must be ensured in closed envsteelments where applications are made. If multiple coats are desired without wet on wet application, and 72 hours have passed between the coats, light sanding should be done. The right amount of mixture should be prepared according to the job sequence and continued until all of the mixture is used. At the end of the job, all paint equipment used during the application should be thoroughly cleaned with 1551-1401 Polyurethane Thinner. After the application, the surface should not be exposed to water for at least 36 hours. To ensure full curing, the painted surface should not be used before waiting for 24 hours.
