What is Epoxy Shop Primer.
Epoxy Shop Primer is a two-component zinc phosphate-containing polyamide-based anticorrosive primer.
Epoxy shop primer coating features
Adhesion to light metals and sheet surfaces, Rapid drying feature, corrosion resistance provided during stacking and manufacturing period, No burning or foaming during welding processes, does not deteriorate welding quality, Provides a smooth surface for all types of air and oven dried primers to be applied on top.
Usage Areas
Epoxy Shop Primer can be easily applied to all sheet surfaces. It is formulated especially for use as a pre-manufacturing primer in manufacturing workshops where automatic or manual grit blasting is done.
Application and Surface Preparation:
For Epoxy Shop Primer system to achieve the expected success,
surface preparation to be done is as important as the application itself.
Any kind of moisture, chloride, sulfate salts, rust,
rolling scale on metal surfaces should be removed from the surface
by grit blasting method according to Swedish Standard SIS 05 5900
Sa 2 ½ degrees, or by mechanical method according to St 2 standard.
In addition, dust, dirt, oil, and grease on metal surfaces
should be cleaned with cleaning agents and/or
high-pressure water jet.
Welding spatters and sharp corners of surfaces should be ground.
After various cleaning processes,
the surface should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner,
clean and dry air, or a clean brush.
After these processes, there should be a slight metallic luster on the surface,
and after this process, it should be applied to the surface preferably immediately,
at the latest within 30 minutes.
Primer Application:
After opening the Epoxy Shop Primer (1411-1106) package,
mix thoroughly preferably with a drill motor to homogenize,
and mix with the specified amount of Epoxy Shop Primer Hardener (1411-1506).
The mixture gives the application viscosity. If necessary,
Epoxy Thinner (1451-1401) can be added in the ratio of 5%.
(In spray applications, application viscosity should be adjusted to 17” - 19” / DC4 / 20°C.)
To achieve the desired success from Epoxy Shop Primer,
it is recommended to apply a single coat that leaves
a maximum of 15 - 20 µ dry film thickness on the surface.
During Application
The ambient temperature should be between 5°C and 50°C,
The temperature of the surface to be applied should be between 10°C and 30°C,
Relative humidity should be < 85%.
Important Reminders:
In applications conducted in enclosed spaces to avoid any health problems or fire hazards, adequate ventilation must be provided. When it is preferred to apply primer and topcoat together and in a wet-on-wet application, after the primer application, it is necessary to wait for at least 45 minutes while paying attention to the properties of the topcoat. Mixtures should be prepared in appropriate quantities according to the work sequence and should be continued until the entire mixture is consumed. At the end of the job, all painting equipment used during application must be thoroughly cleaned with 1451-1401 Epoxy Thinner. After application, the surface should not come into contact with water for at least 36 hours. It should be waited for 7 days for complete curing.
